Photo shoot Guide
Being in front of a camera can fell daunting. Especially before the shoot when you're not quite sure what you might need to do, wear, or bring. So here is my way of making the whole process easier for you. Because my goal is to make this as easy as possible for you ;)
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
WHEN PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION

FOR FAMILIES

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
Here are a few tips I like to share when you’re thinking about what to wear for your session:
-
You’ll want what you wear to complement each other, not copy! (Choose 1-3 colors to tie your outfits together, and stagger the patterns. No more than 1/2-1/3 of the people should be wearing patterns).
-
For women, try to avoid entire outfits that are baggy or super-loose. Sometimes the camera can exaggerate the looseness in the clothing, which can cause one to appear more round than they really are.
-
Feel free to bring an outfit change for the babies just in case they get messy. Other items that help are- their favorite toy (if you don't mind it being in a few photos), wipes (to make sure their faces are clean), and snacks (to keep them happy)
-
Try to avoid logo or branded clothing as this will date the photos.
-
Our sessions are relaxed and comfortable, so make sure you feel comfortable with what clothing you bring. If you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing, it often shows in the images.
-
If wear heels, also bring flip-flops or other shoes that you can be more comfortable in while walking in-between shots.
-
Try on everything before the shoot. You’ll want to make sure your clothes fit correctly and you don’t have distractions from panty lines, bra straps, poor fitting clothing, or wrinkles!

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANDS?
During engagement photos it’s likely that you will end up with a few close up hand photos. So make sure you:
-
Ladies + Gents- have your hands and nails clean and cut.
WHAT IF NOT EVERYONE BEHAVES?
First, I want your shoot to be as fun and restful as possible. Over half a decade of experience will help with that but here are a few extra tips to make things go even more smoothly:
-
Music helps everyone relax. So make a playlist with all of your kids favorite songs or find one you like and I'll bring my portable bluetooth speaker so we can listen as we go.
-
Remember that the best thing about family shoots is that they are meant to be whimsical. Everything won't go as planned, but that's okay. I'll be getting all of the little moments documented. Moments that you might not notice. I often have families come back shocked and overjoyed at all the photos we are able to get even when the shoot feels a little wild. SO embrace the wild ;)
SHOULD WE BRING PROPS?
This is completely up to you! If there are certain items that you feel like would help to have more fun bring them along. THis can be a great way to personalize your shoot and make it all around more beautiful. Blankets are always a popular item for family shoots, but toys can work too! ie- skateboards, trucks, books, chairs, or tents. Think as outside of the box as you like!
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO KEEP IN MIND?
Please be on time and ready to go at the time of the shoot because light is very important we don’t want to miss out on any good light! Other than that you’re good to go! Be ready to have fun and make beautiful memories!

FOR INDIVIDUALS
WHAT SHOULD I/WE WEAR?
Here are a few tips I like to share when you’re thinking about what to wear for your session:
-
Feel free to bring an outfit change (one casual look, one dressy look). It’s always good to switch things up a bit and if we change locations, it will essentially be like you had two photoshoots! I will have a changing tent on me so no need to worry about where you can change.
-
Try to avoid entire outfits that are baggy or super-loose. Sometimes the camera can exaggerate the looseness in the clothing, which can cause one to appear more round than they really are.
-
Wear what you feel comfortable in. If you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing, it often shows in the images.
-
If wear heels, also bring flip-flops or other shoes that you can be more comfortable in while walking in-between shots.
-
Try on everything a few days before the shoot. You’ll want to make sure your clothes fit correctly and you don’t have distractions from panty lines, bra straps, poor fitting clothing, or wrinkles!
SHOULD I GET MY MAKE UP PROFESSIONALLY DONE?
Not at all necessary, but there are a few benefits to getting your makeup done professionally:
-
It will have you feeling more confident, and confidence shows in photos
-
Professionally done make up often shows up better in photos
WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANDS?
During your shoot its possible that you will end up with a few close up hand photos. So make sure you:
-
Gents- have your hands and nails clean and cut.
-
Ladies- same as above but its fun to have your nails done for these.
-
Stick on nails are the perfect fix for this if you don't have time to get them done before your shoot.
-
I'M NERVOUS ABOUT POSING
First, I want your shoot to be as fun and restful as possible. Over half a decade of experience will help with that but here are a few extra tips to make things go even more smoothly:
-
Music helps you relax- especially if its music you like. So make a playlist or all your favorite songs or find one you like and I'll bring my portable bluetooth speaker so we can listen as we go. If you don’t get around to this, no worries we can look up one of your favorite artists and play their music.
-
Let me know ahead of time if you prefer more candids or posed photos so I can come prepared with lots of prompts or poses to keep things moving seamlessly.
SHOULD I BRING PROPS?
This is completely up to you! If there are certain items that reflect something about you or your interests that you would like to incorporate into photos, bring them (hats, fun shoes, a pet, sports paraphernalia, a car, bicycles, etc.) It’s completely up to you, with or without props prepare to have a fun shoot :)
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO KEEP IN MIND?
Please be on time and ready to go at the time of the shoot because light is very important we don’t want to miss out on any good light! Other than that you’re good to go! Be ready to have fun and make beautiful memories!
